I'm not saying Gamestop won't go out of business, I'm just saying that it won't be instantaneous. It took Blockbuster years to die. I remember we used to have a Blockbuster near to where I live and it was open until about 2013 or 2014, thereabouts. Whenever we'd go past it I'd think 'holy shit is that still open?' Keep in mind that Blockbuster had been in trouble since the mid 2000s, definitely by 2010Kugelfisch wrote: ↑Sat Mar 28, 2020 5:03 amThey aren't one mismanaged company in a healthy business, they are a water-headed giant in a dying one.

Here's hoping Gay L and the others will start Kickstarters to finance their own Lara-Su Chronicles. Then their transformation into INs will be complete.Poonoo wrote: ↑Fri Mar 27, 2020 11:34 pmThey are all getting fired now. They have to cut the bloat and since these cunts were losing them money anyway and they are sperging out. Like I said, they knew this was happening since the meeting notes were likely leaked to them and Comicsgate told them to fuck off with their truce.
Though I am worried that they will be replaced with even worse tumblrinas once this pandemic is over.

True, they won't just disappear overnight. Very often when someone buys such a company it comes with contractual obligations to keep many locations running for a while. Sometimes it's due to rent contracts of the object, sometimes due to zoning laws and sometimes due to agreements with unions.Keith Chegwin wrote: ↑Sat Mar 28, 2020 5:48 amI'm not saying Gamestop won't go out of business, I'm just saying that it won't be instantaneous. Of course those don't really count for a company that is legit broke but a company that large is almost never actually completely broke. They could liquidate assets for example. Also the company that buys the broke one isn't so they may be forced to keep operations running for a while. It's complicated stuff. Those obligations are often exactly why large retail businesses go broke in the first place. They can't just drastically downsize due to such things.
In the end, though, Gamestop hasn't been doing fine for several years now and has failed to change their business model into something functional. It's not entirely their fault as, as mentioned, the entire concept of brick and mortar vidya stores is fast becoming obsolete. Expect them to vanish in the near future.

They might just scrap monthlies and go for larger collection sized stories. Or just go digital, and print only those that become best sellers.VoiceOfReasonPast wrote: ↑Sat Mar 28, 2020 10:02 am

It'll eventually have the effect of curbing tumblrinas, since only the successful ones will actually get to make any money (especially on print resales to normie places like Books a Million) Theyll probably get scared off from having to write a whole big story at once. Easing deadlines means the art quality might actually increase, and artist-writers might make a comeback.
I'd like to think the limitations would mean that the big two would only try to woo away top talent for a division they dont want to primarily fund. (Especially if they want to get back into supermarkets and other easy retailers now that comic stores are dead).
Then again, I'm an optimist.

The longer this goes on the less likely it is that anyone will be replaced. Rather, they'll all be fired.VoiceOfReasonPast wrote: ↑Sat Mar 28, 2020 10:02 amThough I am worried that they will be replaced with even worse tumblrinas once this pandemic is over.
They're not getting back into supermarkets, or newsstand. Even non-niche magazines are having a tough time maintaining newsstand presence and once you've bought out of newsstand it's very difficult to buy your way back in.Tony Schiavone wrote: ↑Sat Mar 28, 2020 5:16 pmI'd like to think the limitations would mean that the big two would only try to woo away top talent for a division they dont want to primarily fund. What will happen, and this has been predicted for a long time, is they'll mostly do reprints. Marvel and DC have like 80 years worth of material they can reprint. They don't need to make new comics really.

It amazes me on how delusional comic book writers are. Does this jackass Star Wars writer realize about the lockdowns that prevent people from going to library?
