This is largely accurate. I don't think he's totally without emotions and he is certainly an overall unhappy person but he's much more a weak pussy than critically depressed. His tweets are the equivalent of 15 year old girl writing "my life is over!" rather than an actual cry for help.

Consider the alternative. She's nearly 40. The pool of available men is much smaller than it would've been eight, ten years ago, even for an attractive woman and not a goblin. It would be better, in that scenario, to stick with what she's got. She's already sunk the time in and he, in the hypothetical of course, will have proven himself willing to change and make sacrifices. Besides which, in my hypothetical, she'd have the 'hand' in the relationship because her leaving him has him begging for her to come back.

But what was it she had? A no-fun dipshit getting worse as time went on. An almost 40yr old woman can still get a divorcee that would be absolutely delighted by her having no kids or really any virgin NEET her heart could desire. Honestly, who, short of a crackhead, would even be a worse choice?
