Exactly. It costs a bunch to pay regular paychecks to actors (at least minimun wage I'm sure) to do sketches nobody likes on top of paying for the studio he doesn't need. I'm sure the financial realities are taking their toll now. He probably realized - much later than he should have - that with a dwindling viewership he can't maintain those costs for little to no benefit.
