Every Bond actor becomes too comfortable eventually if they stick around. The entire production team around them becomes accustomed to one particular way of doing things and stops being creative.
If Sam Mendes hadn't injected Connery nostalgia into the back end of the Craig run, then I guarantee they'd still be doing "early Bond".

They need to cast younger actors or recast every three movies. Bond isn't supposed to be perpetually 50.
