Like all the best movies
the thing so many content 'creators' miss is that they bring their own baggage to a project

i luv cronenberg's SHIVERS n think it is a sly satire ala DAWN but it AIN'T art...it got problems

i can just live with those problems

ppl like josh insist those problems don't exist

Scanners is probably my favorite cronenberg movie, but I'd be lying if I said it's perfect or even close. A lot of cronenberg movies ride that line between genuinely disturbing vs hilariously camp.

I take issue with lumping Carpenter into that group. He had a couple shit movies in the 90s... but he had the good sense to more or less retire before he perma-fucked his reputation and legacy.
Yeah, Carpenter never sunk as low as Romero. I would rather watch Ghosts of Mars than Survival of the Dead.

The Fly is my favorite Cronenberg film. I think with that film he successfully went full genuinely disturbing. Videodrome, The Brood, Scanners and his other body horror films are also great but you're right that some of them at times come dangerously close to camp. The end of The Brood is probably the biggest example of Cronenberg accidentally falling into camp, it becomes hilariously obvious that the evil mother represents Cronenberg's ex-wife.

Honestly Carpenter's worst output is just kind of average. There's really nothing truly embarrassing in his catalog. And now he tours around playing music in a show that, honestly, kind of kicks ass.

Man, fucking Day of the Dead. Originally saw that with my cousins back in Jersey. My favorite of Romero's Dead movies for sure. I know the popular opinion is that Dawn was the best of the trilogy (and it is breddy gud), but Day is a blast plain and simple. Captain Rhodes is one of my favorite characters of all time. Just hysterical, any time he opens his mouth. Great female protag, great scenario, chock full of great ideas. It's too bad George went mostly downhill from this point on.

Agree about Carpenter still being okay, but he blew most of his load in the 70's and 80's.

That's true. But he did have at least one great movie in the 90s, In The Mouth of Madness.

Carpenter was a God of genre films from Assault on Precinct 13 to They Live. In the Mouth of Madness is a pretty good film but the rest of his 90s-present output is unremarkable.
