He might be fond of the role but that doesn't mean he's up to the demands of filming a big budget motion picture in his 90s

Why would he have to be? I'm not talking about giving him a starring role. How much would it take to just give him the costume, wheel him to set and have him deliver a few lines? That's it. They don't have to make a big thing out of it and have him stick around chatting like he did in the first movie. He could be done in 20 minutes tops.

I mean, obviously he might be too ill for that and I'd understand it, but it's far from impossible.

Alternatively, they could get those twins, who seem to be in fine health, or the guy who originally played Danny(who I believe is a teacher now). It feels so inauthentic.

Why? There's no reason to watch anything that came after The Arrival of a Train. It has great effects, tells a thrilling story with an amazing climax, and it never overstays its welcome.

I guess it just somehow makes it very slightly valid? Like how Dick van Dyke was in that Mary Poppins movie from last year. It was still a bit of that old magic and it made it feel like a sequel for a moment, not a cynical cash-in.
