I think having the survival of personkind depend on some single resistance leader was kinda dumb all the way back in T1.

This is why all this shit is retarded. You know how in T3 they said "Judgment Day is inevitable."? Well, so is the fucking resistance. Erasing the person who leads it from history just means someone else will do it instead.
Exactly. And I bet you don't even have to travel back in time several decades to beat humanity. Just figure out "When exactly did shit start hitting the fan for us?"
and go fix that.
You don't even have to send a full Terminator unit back into the past when all you need to know are resistance camp positions, as well as when and where they attacked.

Not even that. By making Judgement Day inevitable they've basically fucked the entire premise. If Judgment Day is inevitable then the resistance is inevitable. If the resistance is inevitable then Skynet's defeat is inevitable. If Skynet's defeat is inevitable then no amount of time travel bullshit is ever going to help them and every Terminator sequel after the first one was fucking pointless and a complete waste of time

This exactly. It is already a dumb premise and casting someone in the role who is as believable as an army leader as a fucking Yorkshire Terrier makes the thing over-the-top ridiculous. The wokeness makes these idiots drop all sense and logic in their writing.

Why?
Isn't the whole point that the resistance never came together as a proper fighting force until Connor stepped into the picture? Sure it's
possible someone else would be able to lead it, but it's also possible that there'll be in-fighting and shit that tears everything apart. It's a ragtag resistance, not a well-oiled machine that can just run on its own. Connor's charisma supposedly motivated the men and kept them going through the toughest days. He's an icon, not one cog.

Every Terminator film after the original was fucking pointless. Skynet was already defeated in the future and the Terminator it sent back was a last ditch attempt before the resistance shut it down. Aside from that one single robot, the war was won. It was simple, coherent time loop.
T2 is built on the notion that not only did Skynet survive somewhere, but it also had the resources to invent a significantly superior Terminator AND capture the time machine all over again or build a new one. Which is just fucking dumb.

A lot of people gloss over this detail from T1.

Because in order for the idea that Judgment Day is inevitable to work, you'd have to accept that you can't change the future. If you can't change the future, all this fucking around with time travel and Terminators is a complete exercise in futility
That's why the series was best ended with Judgment Day averted and John Connor becoming a Senator

Or in T1, where nobody knew jack about how time travel works because the future's a post-apocalyptic nightmare, and Skynet just stumbled into the loop with its one and only attempt at changing things.

Because despite Rushy's autism over the whole thing, it's just a throwaway line. Made by a character who got sent back in time before they'd even smashed the time machine and therefore doesn't
actually know that they beat Skynet, just that victory
seemed inevitable

It's also possible for 20+ years of divergent timelineshit to produce a Connor replacement. Especially considering how inevitable most other future events are in this franchise.
For all we know, adult Connor might've stolen the sweetheart of someone who would've become an even bigger chad if he had just completed his Love Quest.
That's also why I propose shorter trips into the past. Makes it somewhat easier to predict if you actually get what you want.
