Re: STD
It's not even the pudgyness that's the most problematic part for me, it's those overly large and shiny yellow eyes.
Data's eyes in the show were always very faded. You could barely tell that they were yellow and it gave the perfect impression of something being off and artificial about him, but not overtly so.
Maybe the camera just didn't pick the eyes up as well at the time or something, but in that case, they should've adapted for the new digital ones.

Re: STD
There was never really anything massively unsettling about Data. Just some human with a palette swap.
Autism attracts more autism. Sooner or later, an internet nobody will attract the exact kind of fans - and detractors - he deserves.

Re: STD
Those eyes just look like he's got terminal hepatitis C. They really should've just spray painted Spiner and gave him some mild-liver-damage-coloured contacts and it would've been fine.
I dunno, just have some redshirt ask him in some hallway why he ages and he could go "My body is made to age like a normal human. It would cause them distress if it wouldn't.".
I mean it's established that he's "fully functional" so I don't think anyone would bat an eye at the creator of a robot that thought of giving him an operational dick would also make him age. It's not like machines don't wear either. Rubber will sack from gravity pretty quickly, actually.

Q can come back and tell Picard how he almost ended up in a Paul Latza movie.

I hope he'll make jokes about how "friendship is... fascinating".
