I remember those guys. I played the shit out of Super Robot Wars OG 2 on the game boy advance. Yeah, bosses in those games would regen hundreds of thousands of HP per turn. My big way to body that game was to stack pilot skills repeatedly and try to burn every boss down in a single turn.

The games generally reward you for alpha-striking like a mofo because of the ludicrous HP regen, but I sometimes keep stuff in reserve for those bosses who flee if their HP goes below a certain threshold.

I started up Bravely Second to try the series out and I already want to chuck it in a bin. Super slow intro + juvenile dialogue that breaks the 4th wall and tries to be 2smart5u + handholding you to fuck with constant tutorial messages and baby's first jrpg tips.
Back to devil survivor 2 for me. I like it when my games try to fuck you over and trust that you'll figure it out, lower the difficulty or give up.

But Final Fantasy is babys first JRPG. Most games in the franchise just aren't as honest as Final Fantasy Mystic Quest.

Pokenmanz is also Baby's First SMT, fiendishly enough.

Afaik, the first Dragon Quest with any sort of monster training feature was the third one, which came out in 1988, aka a year after the birth of MegaTen.

Close enough to have been thought up independently. Maybe something else like that saw a rise in popularity around that time on ricenigger island.VoiceOfReasonPast wrote: ↑Tue Sep 17, 2019 4:47 pmAfaik, the first Dragon Quest with any sort of monster training feature was the third one, which came out in 1988, aka a year after the birth of MegaTen.

Is dragon quest even good though? I played VIII and it was like pulling teeth to get anything done. Game is slow as fuck even by rpg standards.
