So, Jimbo Metokur jumped in on some random podcast yesterday and taqlked a little about his TGWTG videos. He mentioned Spoony's increasing cavalcade of imaginary diseases and promised to talk about it on his last video. He also promised to talk about Nasty Cockslut's behind the scenes antics, and even something very juicy that could potentially finish Lewis for good.



Seems a bit too good to be true, but let's see if he delivers.

Like the Simon Furman G1 Transformers comics of the 80s were great. The format of these old comics were technically one serialized story, but built up of little 1-2 issue stories. So they kept their storylines tight and fast paced. Very organic storytelling.

Now the modern IDW comics are serialized and they plan each story arc to be graphic novel sized. Sounds great, except now we get "decompressed" storytelling. Slow-paced and dull. Full of filler.

But as you said, in Japan they (usually) seem to handle serialization just fine. And perhaps that's because manga are driven by a single artist/author team and not "reimagined" and retconned every six months like capeshit is.

The worst that can happen there is having a manga's success corrupt the author, either directly or indirectly through the magazine who wants the manga to keep going. Or you have a guy like Tite Kubo who trolls everyone by having Bleach's "final arc" go on for hundreds upon hundreds of chapters. Though then you can always just pick a story arc to call quits.
