Western society is fucked. The birth rates thing could be partially explained by better medical care, fewer infant deaths, a proliferation of birth control (preventing as many accidental births) and rising global populations, but that's overlooking the cultural aspect. Not only can young men and women not really afford to have kids unless they're both working and both making good money, most young people won't want to have kids for various cultural reasons. Add to that some very toxic attitudes about gender roles (and men generally) which are pushing women and men apart and you've got the shit that's ruining us today.

It's not that there won't always be people fucking, but you only have to look at how the modern feminist women from the 70s-90s ended up today, and how the current generation of women my age are ending up. To say nothing of the men my age. The men are all single. Some are lonely, some not. The women are filling out the bitter cat lady feminist trope. They've misidentified men as the target of their problems, rather than a poisonous ideology which tells them to never be happy unless they're using their social power to fuck someone else over. Not that you have to tell women to be happy about doing that shit.

By comparison, every culture based on some crazy backwords bullshit religion is teaching its people to spit out shitloads of kids, lock into monogamous relationships as early as possible (to better spit out more kids) and never use birth control. It's not about what is or isn't fun for the people. We're talking about replication here and the latter is a more viable pattern to propagate. Obviously, ideas replicate and not every person born muslim remains muslim, but they have strong incentives and disincentives in place to attend to that eventuality as well.

It helps to think of people less as people and more as gene replication machines which fool themselves into believing they're not.
