Listened to the interview with Liz. Nothing super interesting, just some behind the scenes info on Suburban Knights about how they weren't fed and because they were contracted they weren't given breaks. They also bring up the fact that video reviews are dying and apparently when they were together, Liz asked Lewis what he was going to do after and Lewis responded that he would stick with Linkara for as long as he could, and then maybe try and get a job in comics.

From everyone who's told me, in order to get a job in the comics industry as a writer, you have to have some prior self-made work to showcase your abilities, since it's easier to read a book than a bunch of scripts. But all Lewis has is Lightbringer and that Revolution of the Mask thing, both of which he's abandoned. It'd be hilarious seeing him go up to DC or Marvel and try to use those as proof he can handle the work load and deadlines.

EDIT: Oh, and Liz couldn't sit through TBF or At4W the movie because of how preachy they were.

I'll tell you what this is about. He thinks his peripheral story lines in AT4W are going to be his big break. And he's going to march into Marvel and/or DC and say that he's been writing exciting stories of AT4W for years, like nobody's going to see it for being what it is; a bunch of smoke-and-mirrors, Dr. Who, Star Trek, and Power Rangers references.

He is so unaware of himself. He writes EXACTLY the same way he wrote during the Lightbringer era. Funny thing is, he admits that Lightbringer sucks, but he apparently doesn't know why.

He has no concept of plot, pacing, character development, act structure, streamlining and editing, and so on and so forth. And it's not just his writing that exposes this. It's his "critiques" in Atop The Fourth Wall. He doesn't know the first thing about writing, and that's why he never brings any of that shit up when doing his "reviews". And this is a guy who thinks he's going to break into the industry.

I'm surprised he would ever want to dabble in comics again. We were the only ones who ever challenged him on his writing chops, and he clearly never took any of it to heart. He'd have to be protected by a team of script doctors around him at all times, implying that all of them are better writers than he is.

Who would hire anyone like that???

I doubt he's ever watched a Kevin Smith movie. He's too conservative for that. But J. Michael Straczynski got a job writing Thor and Spidey after Babylon 5 so that's probably his inspiration... if he's even aware you need some prior experience before you can get a job in the big two. Though it's funny you bring up Smith considering his debut, Guardian Devil, was an admitted retread of Frank Miller Born Again arc.

As for Lightbringer, it's probably because of the insular audience. Liz brought that up in the interview as well. talking about how living in the bubble makes it harder to hear anything negative. He has people praising these stories and talking about how deep the characters are and how interesting it all is... and ignoring the fact that others don't like it. Hell, he probably assumes the IMDB score is because of the trolls.

Even his friends don't offer criticism, every time they're in a story together, they just read out whatever he wrote and go along with it. At no point while filming the movie did any one point out how self-congratulatory the script was.

And for something so self-congratulatory, there's a whole lot of nothing happening. There's nothing of any consequence that happens in that movie. He resurrects his biggest foe just to kill him all over again. Big whoop.

I mean, if I had the hubris to think I could make a movie, I'd make it about...I dunno... SOMETHING.
