Probably. There was a generational gap. I was about the youngest age group of Hokuto no Ken fans. Anyone younger than me didn't know it. My Japanese ex born 1980 didn't know it. HnK fandom was dead back in 1999-2000. I got animation cels from the TV series dirt cheap. I bought several, but I should have borrowed money from my parents and bought the whole damn batch. I'd be rich now.Guest wrote: ↑Sat Dec 22, 2018 2:32 amMaybe the Chinese chick thought Kenshiro was either Stallone from Cobra or Mel Gibson from Mad Max

It's the best way to tell if someone is a bugman or not. Loads of plastic consumer crap that serves to purpose except to "express your personality" which you don't have if you buy that shit in the first place.Guest wrote: ↑Fri Dec 21, 2018 11:31 amWhy does anybody have any superhero busts ever? Does emma frost's disembodied head and shoulders really bring the lounge together? Is the breakfast nook just not complete without Deadpool winking at you?

Funcos, capeshit figures, posters for pop culture shit that's mainstream as fuck, etc.

Oh I admit I’m always embarrassed, but it’s just something I like and don’t see why I should change it for others. Thankfully I’ve never gotten that sort of reaction, but I’m pretty reserved so I guess it pays off? One girl adored my nendoroid stuff and got me to teach her the buying basis. I think it’s about rotation and keeping your collection looking nice, as I’ll downsize if I feel I now longer care for a piece and dust frequently.Liar Revealed wrote: ↑Sat Dec 22, 2018 1:36 amThat's... amazing. I always get a bad reaction.Old Black Man wrote: ↑Fri Dec 21, 2018 11:50 pmTruth be told I make fun of myself for having it but I’ve never had a significant other give me shit for it.
American chick: Why do you have that stuff? It's so stupid! (Bitch has a bedroom full of teddy bears.)
Chinese chick (in Japan) that loves everything American: Oh these American figures are so cool!
Me: Those are Hokuto no Ken figures I bought here in Japan.
Chinese Chick: (very disappointed) Oh... I see...
Japanese Chick: (Just glares at figures and says nothing.)
And right on HnK! I love that series and don’t personally know many others who do.

Something similar happened to me with the HnK, I watched the movie in 96/97 and I love it but it was difficult to find more stuff, at least years later fansubs started picking several old series. Btw Is there an uncensored version of the film or is it just an urban legend?Liar Revealed wrote: ↑Sat Dec 22, 2018 3:17 amProbably. There was a generational gap. In my country they dubbed the anime and started to air it in the 80's and they kept doing reruns till at least the late 90s.Bobito wrote: ↑Sat Dec 22, 2018 1:29 pmSomething similar happened to me with the HnK, I watched the movie in 96/97 and I love it but it was difficult to find more stuff, at least years later fansubs started picking several old series. As far as i know, the villains becoming silhouettes before exploding was canon in Japan too. Only in the first episodes (or just the first episode) one could see the full gory explosion

I thought the silhouette thing was just for the series. The movie from the 90s is all gory.Guest wrote: ↑Sat Dec 22, 2018 1:45 pmIn my country they dubbed the anime and started to air it in the 80's and they kept doing reruns till at least the late 90s.Bobito wrote: ↑Sat Dec 22, 2018 1:29 pmSomething similar happened to me with the HnK, I watched the movie in 96/97 and I love it but it was difficult to find more stuff, at least years later fansubs started picking several old series. It existed at some point, no idea if one still does at Toei HQ.Bobito wrote: ↑Sat Dec 22, 2018 1:29 pmSomething similar happened to me with the HnK, I watched the movie in 96/97 and I love it but it was difficult to find more stuff, at least years later fansubs started picking several old series. AFAIK this Italian VHS isnt completely uncensored but these bits are definitely censored in the remastered DVD version thats currently out there.
There was a lot of weird fuckery with the HnK movie, lots of strange decisions made before and after they finished production, like changing the ending for the old VHS release.
This could all be solved in Toei just shit out a decent uncensored Blu-ray but why bother? They don't give two shits about preserving their old kino like Dragon Ball or Sailor Moon. They're like Japan's disney in a lot of ways.

They're not creepy. They fill out important pieces of lore since they finally let you get a good look at the pantsus.Old Black Man wrote: ↑Fri Dec 21, 2018 11:50 pmBusts are lame and the real deal breaker is the creepy anime statues. I’m a collector of crap myself but I have standards. Like that Mezco 1:12 Blade I’ve got on the way.![]()
Also congrats on that Blade statue.
