Re: Weebshit Thread
I believe that is correct, yes. Most of the movies are just alternate versions of the manga's various sagas. Like the Gogeta movie for example, literally could not be canonical because Goku and Vegeta were never dead at the same time

Well in the movies you also see another brother of goku (not raditz) and freezer's brother twice, not original but at least you can watch some good animated fight scenes instead of watching the background for the 5 minutes with the sound of breeze in a normal episode of namek saga.

I forgot to mention that a couple years ago, Toriyama released a one-shot short manga that totally contradicted Bardock, Father of Goku. The first act of this movie is based on that manga.

Toei has a long history with these out-of-canon "Manga Matsuri" theatrical movies.
The Mazinger Z movies from the 70s and the Kinnikuman movies from the 80s are both out of canon from the TV series. I don't know why this is, but I'm assuming the priority in making these movies was having all the kids' favorite characters on the big screen together at once.

Yes. The TV specials were designed to fit in the canon.

I guess they didn't care about being canon so they didn't have to worry when the movei will be released in relation to the animu.
Tokushit (and by extension Cureshit) generally tries to have its movies kinda-sorta canon (not that the movie events will ever matter in the show - unless you're like a Sentai movie showing off an exclusive Giant Robot; that robot will probably appear in the show somewhere down the line) and try to target some minimum and/or maximum episode number in terms of continuity (which is admittedly easier in the toku-format because the status quo only really changes every couple months or so).

I hope this will turn into a Karl/Mao yaoi extravaganza. That little historical inaccuracy would be totally worth it.

Re: Weebshit Thread
About 45 episodes into Super....I can go over the stuff I kind of like first.
For one I like a lot of the new characters, the first appearances of Hit and Cabba were a lot of fun and I thought they were both really dynamic. I haven't even touched Tournament of Power tho, so I'm sure the writers fuck that up.
I have a lot of issues with Goku Black, but I do kind of like that they were able to bring Future Trunks back into the story. He was one of my favorite characters in Z.
This was a filler episode, but I like a few of the moments where Piccolo is babysitting Gohan's kid. I think Grandpa Piccolo is kind of adorable.
I do genuinely like the first tournament arc. I'd vouch for it even tho only Goku and Vegeta do any actual fighting (again).
I digress, Super's really starting to get bad with Goku Black. Its boring and obviously padded and Zamasu is probably the least interesting villain in any iteration of the franchise, certainly worse than any of the villains in GT, at least with the GT villains you had creative concepts. And it speaks to the laziness of the writing when of the five arcs, two of them are movie recaps, one is about evil Goku, two are tournaments, and one of those tournament arcs is damn near 60 episodes long.
The meta, jokey writing got old, too. Its fine for a two hour film like Battle of Gods, so I was willing to give the recaps a pass, but 20 hrs of that shit gets old. Is there any merit to the fact that they're taking cues from TFS? Like, I'd buy that since Sabat said he's a fan. It could also be that they're stealing from Joss Whedon/Marvel.

Re: Weebshit Thread
Since this has been yet another Dragging Balls thread the past few pages, Toei finally put out all the older DB movies on Blu-ray in Japan. They're pretty shit. As I expected, they're cropped (a lot of western releases had full frame DVDs of the Dragon Ball movies, but in nipland they were all cropped since at least the laserdiscs) but they're also full of gay digital noise reduction and censorship. Yes, after twenty years Toei decided to nix some middle fingers out of a couple of the films (a common censorship in some versions of Viz's English publications of the manga as well.) The real kicker is that a few months before the Blu-rays were shipped they dumped the movies onto Amazon Prime and Netflix Japan, where the heavy DNY wasnt applied and neither was any content censorship (you can find those on Nyaa btw.) Dodgy stuff. Also this shit costs like 500 dollars each in nipbucks.
