I don't think the problem is necessarily the music in Disney films themselves. Well, most of them.
The problem stems from the cult-like hive mind mentality around them. Remember Frozen and "Let It Go" being blasted everywhere?

Frozen was way more popular than it had any right to be. It's like everyone was starved so much for a half-decent Disney movie that they all went bonkers when it came out.
All the priviledged white people who demanded more and more of it became sickening.

'Let It Go" sounds like the same damn autotuned crap they would blast on one of their made for TV movies.

I suppose that's fair. I just have a huge fondness for musicals in general.

Always hated singing sings, and I always felt embarrassed watching them with other people. as a kid.

God, I thought I was the only one.
I enjoyed Disney movies, and watched plenty of them as a kid, but I couldn't stand the singing. I enjoyed the films for the parts where they didn't sing

I have that in parts. I got easily triggered by cartoon movies with musical numbers, but that's usually because those musical numbers were garbage. Disney tended to be a lot better in that regard for me, so I didn't mind them doing it.

There's really a good way and a bad way to do musical numbers.
Does the musical number advance the story? Or does the story suddenly pause for inane singing (with little to no bearing on the plot) while you grit your teeth and pray for it to end quickly?
