The fact that he allowed Rodriguez of all people to direct this implies he stopped giving a shit some point before production officially took off & will use him as a scapegoat for when the movie fails. The 18+ years of his "dream" to see this theatrical adaptation bear fruit all went away post-Avatar.

That better be shit marketing otherwise this will be trash. The world of Alita is brutal and depressing and the character in the manga loses practically everyone close to her by the end of it. Tictac called it "horror" once and he is right, not in the sense of a traditional monster movie or slasher film but that feeling of dread. She is not an empowered role model like they are implying here, she becomes more isolated from people as the story goes on.

And adding Motorball into it too? It made sense to do the first 2 volumes since that is a complete, self contained story which is why the OVA did that. Problem is the OVA rushed it in 50 minutes so it was shit, a full 2 hour movie would have been fine but now they are just cramming shit in. That and they don't want the depressing ending it would have because Hollywood is shit, so they are adding the Motorball bit to have a more uplifting ending.

I had some cautious optimism for this, but that has soured greatly. It will be another Ghost in the Shell, except they have marketed this way more heavily.
