It took like a century for anyone to remember that guy who drew Batman.

Well actually...
Bob Kane is the guy who 'drew' Batman (really he just traced most of his art)
Bill Finger, the guy you're thinking of, wrote Batman but most of the concepts associated with Batman (his design, Bruce Wayne, Gotham City, Robin and most of Batman's villains) were his idea

It took a long time for anyone to acknowledge Bill Finger because Bob Kane's name was the only name on the Batman comics, and Bob Kane was adamant that he, and only he, created Batman. Whereas Stan Lee at least acknowledged Jack Kirby drew the books even if he refused to give Kirby his proper credit for effectively creating Marvel's stable of characters.

Ditko never wanted to be on anything, even their fan club record albums. Stan just gave him space and gave him the same staff mentions as everyone else, more when it was clear the fans when nuts for his trippy art.

Part of Stan's image meant elevating those around him (so he wouldn't look like the king of nobodies). He would want to give credit and treat the Bullpen like a magical theme park place to build excitement.
It's called marketing. Really kind of a lost art in a lot of mediums these days.
Those who look around an treat Stan likehe was some sort of huckster are only upset that they didn't or couldn't pull it off themselves.
