The kind that came through the 60s (the Python generation) liked to boast that they had the education and upbringing before they toppled everything down.
Then they wonder why newer generations just cut out the middleman and go way farther with meanspiritedness and 'message' than they ever intended?
Cleese complains that he had to move to Bath because London no longer felt Britush anymore.
The original Discordians get offended when no one understands their Greek history references.
Well no shit Sherlock. Why in the world would you think anyone cares about that anymore? You never seemed to.

The Matrix was the first movie to blend together every underground nerd genre and trope before every other studio realized how easy it was to do that shit too. Any time they ran into a problem on how to tie it together, they solved it with pbscure, open-ended language and visuals.Guest wrote: ↑Tue Nov 06, 2018 1:25 am
The Maxtrix is better than most shit that gets an oscar. I guess they've earned a lifetime achievement award for at least making one kino. (I know theres some crazy fucks out there that love Speed Racist)
Not to say the movie is bad, but it only becomes more special because no one had seen it before. Only the advantage of being the first with effects and technology meant everyone else was copying you.
Then for a sequel they realized they could just keep talking out of their ass and rake in the cash before anyone could do anything.
For a few years they fucked around doing more derivative shit because it was easy and they were rich. Only now, Hollywood and its mass production scale finally began to catch up.
So rather than become stale, forgotten, punchline, they both decided to troll and go full tranny to protect their legacy. Now no one can really say anything bad about them, and they can keep collecting accolades and fuck around as long as they want. The execs probably cant stand the sight of them, but being trapped in the left means they have no choice.
It's like the most genius lazy Internet Nobody plan ever. I cant hate them for screwing with Hollywood and profiting by using their own rules against them.

Orson Welles' last film was finally completed and released on Netflix, watched it on friday, and it was fucking good. It was mired in issues with the financing and rights as it was at least partially funded by the brother-in-law of the Shah of Iran, and then the shit hit the fan in there, and Shah was overthrown. I was doubtful if they'd manage to imitate/emulate Welles' style of editing, but it was very well done, it felt like Welles-film.
Just a shame that he couldn't finish it during his own lifetime, but better late than never. Might not be his top 3 films, but definitely one of his major works.

Been meaning to give that a watch, that and the documentary about it. I do love me some Orson Welles, great at anything he did- even shilling frozen peas.

The Other Side of the Wind if you can't use search engines.

I've been reading My Lunches With Orson, I didn't realize the movie came out a few days ago.
MYWO is where all those meme quotes come from, like Orson's diatribes against Woody Allen and the Irish.

I think I could watch that one for 50 hours straight.
Especially the part how they love to talk endlessly about their grand plans, only to then to fuckall 98% of the time.Auli wrote: ↑Tue Nov 06, 2018 1:01 amI'm watching Life of Brian. Haven't seen in... what, two decades?
So far a rape joke, and a guy who says he's a woman and want a baby. "We shall fight the oppressors for your right to have a baby".
"It is symbolic of our struggle against oppression."
"... symbolic of his struggle against reality."
And there's a transphobe... It's pretty... ahead of it's time? xD

Yeah, Welles fucking hated Woody Allen, which was one of the best qualities in him. I remember watching the lecture/Q&A from youtube he gave to some film school students, one of the pretentious retards asked him if he symbolized anything with the low-key and barren set design on The Trial, Welles basically went "Fuck no, we used those sets because of the financial restrictions, but it worked for the film" and laughed. Those fucking idiotic students became the pretentious shit directors we have nowadays.Guest wrote: ↑Tue Nov 06, 2018 5:05 pmI've been reading My Lunches With Orson, I didn't realize the movie came out a few days ago.
