Venom was a masterpiece 10/10.


There were 40 minutes cut from when the thing was initially an R and you can tell because it speeds thru character beats at break neck speed.
There are heads getting bitten off and all sorts of gory shit and its totally bloodless.
I'm confused as to why they didn't have Carnage as the villain, Woody Harrellson was rumored casting at one point and Idk what would have been wrong with that but here we are.
There's nothing to really latch onto, we don't know the villains motivations, and Eddie Brock is just kind of a blanket smartass.
I do like when the movie is intentionally funny, there are a few moments like that.
A moment when it is unintentionally funny is when Brock is questioning the villains and starts asking questions he can't source and then his station fires him and you're supposing to think he's rebelling against the system but it just seems like he isn't very good at this.
There's another moment near the end, where Brock goes to a convenience store he patronized earlier in the film and it gets robbed and he lets Venom out and Venom eats the guys head and it plays like this heroic moment, like something you'd have seen in one of the Raimi Spidermans.
