I've watched the movie versions of the original series and am kinda dreading to move forward because that whole Newtype stuff was stupid even back then, and it only gets worse with all dem special snowflake tech.

If you don't like Newtypes I'd recommend watching 0080, 0083, The 08th MS Team, The Origin or any number of the non-UC Gundam series that don't have Newtypes in them.

All of the ovas stated that, since the start of the UC calendar until Unicorn events, putting stuff like zeon deikum with the foundation and newtype/war events related were revolving around the mcguffin (secretly of course, like when they misteriously deleted gundam blueprints at the end of 0083), no other series/ovas/movies had changed or added that amount of bullshit into that timeline, clearly they were thinking that it was an alternate universe.
