Like you have people who praise the diversity shit to high heaven, like it's the only thing that matters. Then you have the people who nitpick it to shit in such a way that you can make ANY film look like total garbage. At that point, you're no better than angry reviewers like NC or YMS.

All this over a film that is essentially a gender flipped remake of a New Hope. I reckon both sides are just in denial because othwrwise they need to accept that the original films are not as brain shatteringly awesome as they have elevated them to be. The 1st and 3rd of the originals were always mediocre, Empire was pretty decent and the prequels were all boring tripe. Personally, I fail to understand the cult that's grown around this franchise.

Eh, I like A New Hope for what it is. It's a fun popcorn movie and that's all the series had to be. Empire showed some impressive depth for a popcorn movie, but that shit still isn't The Godfather, Goodfellas or some fucking Vertigo/The Birds.

But who saw Vertigo when they were 8? Probably nobody. People have more nostalgia for those popcorn movies because that's the kind of film families would watch together.

TFA was the typical Disney film they've been making for at least the last decade. Utterly lacking in soul and focus-tested to fuck. Completely mediocre in all respects. But not nearly as shitty as the prequels IMO. The prequels broke new ground in shitty dialogue maymays and awful CGI clusterfucks. The Nostalgia Awakens played it safe by showing fans what a group of marketing execs thought fans (and their kids) would want to see. And let's not forget merchandising, which has been a BIG part of Star Wars as a franchise since at least Jedi. So, since the "nostalgic" era people remember. Phasma was just there to sell toys, but it's not like the Ewoks, Lando or his mexican copilot in Jedi were in that movie for any other reason, lel.

I really don't think too hard about Star Wars, but I'll go ahead and go with what Rabid said. Really, Star Wars, to me, were those 3 films in the 70's and 80's, and that's it. The toys, the comics, even the prequels and these new shitty Disney movies, all that shit to me, is superfluous. I did find it hilarious and predictable that TFA was SUCH a copypasta cashgrab of A New Hope, though, except with some stronk womyn cunt who can't fucking act her way out of a wet paper bag in the lead role.
