Re: Movie Thread
I agree that It Chapter Two is really messy. Some of the messiness can be blamed on the source material, but most of the blame can be placed on the director. Did we really need so many damn flashbacks to the kids? There are flashbacks in the novel, but the novel also interweaves the adult storyline and the kids storyline. It Chapter One focused only on the kids stuff, so It Chapter Two should've focused only on the adult stuff. I thought the adult cast had solid chemistry (much better than the miniseries), but that chemistry is wasted since the adults spend barely any time together. The first hour of the movie is solid (Adrien Mellon's death is the best part of the film), but once the adults go their separate ways, things start to fall apart.
We've now had two adaptations of It, and both have the same fatal flaw; they tell the story chronologically instead of going for the dual narrative that is in the novel. Either make a miniseries that retains the dual narrative or don't bother. The novel is no masterpiece, but it is better than both adaptations.

Yeah, this scene is great. In general, Chapter Two was missing the sense of isolation that was such an integral part of the novel. What's weird is Chapter One retained a bit of this, so I don't get why it's missing from Chapter Two.VoiceOfReasonPast wrote: ↑Sun Sep 22, 2019 7:24 pmThis is still peak Stephen Kino:
A bit of a missed opportunity how such a scene (aka Pennywise in broad daylight, with nobody but the Losers able to perceive him or his antics) doesn't really exist in the new movies. The closest scene was one from Chaper Two, but all the normies were just hypnotized / frozen background blokes.

Re: Movie Thread
Chapter Two's a bit odd since the protagonists barely interact with anyone in town who isn't that skateboard clown fodder. The hotel most of them are staying in doesn't even appear to have employees.

Yeah, it's totally empty and we don't get even a single line of dialogue explaining why. Everything feels oddly empty. Again, this is pretty weird considering Derry felt like a genuine town in Chapter One.

Re: Movie Thread
I think the biggest flaw is that IT is a shit story. It's all about what the fuck IT actually is and what it's motives are and the story's explanation of that is a legendary disappointment.Cuckara wrote: ↑Sun Sep 22, 2019 7:26 pmWe've now had two adaptations of It, and both have the same fatal flaw; they tell the story chronologically instead of going for the dual narrative that is in the novel. The TV version probably gave us the best possible solution by not explaining it. Because sometimes, an evil shapeshifting spider clown is just an evil shapeshifting spider clown.

Doesn't matter. The fact that it's basically just some dumb fucking spider is bad enough. Everyone hated that. It's just a garbage story and there's nothing one can do about it.VoiceOfReasonPast wrote: ↑Sun Sep 22, 2019 8:42 pmThe TV version probably gave us the best possible solution by not explaining it. No amount of money or talent could make this book look good outside the reader's imagination. Some books will never translate to the big-screen because sometimes imagery is too abstract/dumb to manifest outside of one's mind's eye.
Also, clowns are not scary. No one beyond a toddler are afraid of clowns. Why do internet soys insist clowns are scary?
