That's sarcasm, right? The mouse hated everything about Ghibli and held the cinema screenings and distribution as low as possible.

You left out Lasseter in my post. He was Miyazaki’s biggest advocate at Disney and was the one that got Disney to distribute his movies to begin with.

So movie studios keep missing the point of Dr. Seuss. This time Warner's is up to bat.

The nice thing I'll say here is the animation is not the worst thing I've ever seen. But you come up to me, and you say "we're going to make a feature length adaptation of x Dr. Seuss book!" I hear the words 'feature length' and can clock you don't fucking get it.

These are short books. The only good adaptations are stuff like the first Grinch, which is a short film. You don't want to put a short out, ok. Make an anthology movie like Fantasia or the first Winnie the Pooh movie; gives you economy to do every well known Dr. Seuss story as long as you have some veneer of connective tissue.

This movie looks terrible.

Netflix also made an entire 23-episode series (with an individual runtime of just below 30 minutes each) based on Green Eggs and Ham, which in case you've forgotten is a short story where Seuss was really just seeing how far he could go with a vocabulary of only 50 words.

The worst part is that the format was almost right. Just make an anthology series where every episode would adapt a different story.

I guess I'm just exasperated. I grew up with the 2003 Cat in the Hat, one of the worst movies ever made; and these adaptations are still pretty fucking bad.

Disney/Pixar's coping strategy for the Elio disaster appears to be "If you hate sequels and reboots so much, how come you didn't see this amazing original story?!"

I always love these kinds of copes, as they completely ignore that a movie can be shite regardless of whether or not it contains [thing].
