Haven't seen it but it's widely praised. Hard SciFi without FTL travel.

I didn't grow up with it, so I have no nostalgia. I got the DVD set when it was released and... that sure was a thing, I guess. I neither hate it or love it. I give them credit for actually trying.
I remember an amusing anecdote from the commentary track. Gene hired a Native American writer and the man is pitching all kinds of sci-fi story ideas and Gene keeps rejecting all of them saying they're not quite right. The writer soon realizes that he is a token diversity hire and so he pitches this story with a Native American crewman and Native American god-alien-beings. Gene immediately loves it and buys the story.

TAS is just season 4 of TOS to me. And it's arguably less camp than season 3.
