Supposedly it was set between when Raziel got kicked into the blagole and when he returns, but I kinda doubt their adherence to the original lore because apparently Kain kept the Razielim around long enough for them to turn into this:

Let's be clear: They can't ruin the originals with new, woke garbage.
They can only kill the financial viability of a franchise and you should never care about that.
Thief is forever tainted with a shitty reboot and now you have to specify which Thief you were talking about, since they have the same name.
Maybe they can't ruin the old games, but they can definitely tarnish the name. Legacy of Kain as a game series has only one poor entry (Blood Omen 2) and was ultimately redeemed by Defiance's fantastic ending.
The worst part of bringing the IP back would be finding some way to continue the story (or worse, remaking it and changing everything) and invalidating the work of Defiance.
They might as well cancel this shit. No one is interested in a Korean game where you can't play as a prostitute waifu or a prostitute loli - especially not the whales.
