They all do, because they are considered self employed, meaning they get taxed more because there is no company paying the payroll tax for their W-2. Hell, they won't have W-2 forms, they would be using 1099 forms.Guest wrote: ↑Wed May 31, 2017 4:13 amI'm sure they do, every website moving money does. That doesn't stop smalltimers from not paying their taxes. As long as they're not moving huge amounts of money they can pretty safely get away with it from what I've heard. IRS just doesn't have the manpower to track down every petty con who's shuffling less than five figures a year through the internet. It might catch up with spoony eventually of course, and I'm sure we'll be treated to a woe-is-me tweetstorm about his back tax troubles in return. Actually, didn''t we already get a taste of that at some point?AwesomePizza wrote: ↑Wed May 31, 2017 3:12 amCome on. Patreon can't be that stupid to collect and hand out money without filing tax documents. Why don't they just call the FBI now and confess to money laundering.
And if they are hiding behind "gifts" why aren't we petitioning the FBI and IRS to investigate and shut it down.
These folks don't understand this, and don't get that they as self empolyed, won't have taxes withheld from the paycheck. They will need to use the quarterly tax payment plan, and some foresight. They also need to itemize deductions, and like a businessman, deduct anything they can reasonably get away with. But they don't think ahead, and instead complain about tax time.
