Fixed the link for you.
Also who gives a shit about Lucas' totally-real-I-swear plans for trilogies that never happened?

Star Wars is dead. Kathleen Kennedy killed it.
I lived and breathed Star Wars as a kid from 1980 to 1984. Bought all the toys and crap.
And I feel nothing for this brand anymore. They try to emotionally manipulate us by playing the old John Williams music over ads for their new product and I feel nothing now.

I like Rick Worley's videos a lot. The appeal of the new one is that it's really about George Lucas's complicated relationship with his creation. The story of George Lucas and Star Wars isn't one of studio meddling or some forced compromise from outside. Lucas has been able to do whatever he wants for the past almost-fifty years. He could have had one of those jam-packed Werner Herzog careers and made a bunch of small, experimental, personal films.
Instead, he settled into a role as producer and when he was finally ready to go back to Star Wars, after understandably being burnt out on it after three movies, he did it by tinkering with the old movies. Multiple times. And he eventually sold his baby to Disney.
There's something to the psychology of that. Some kind of internal conflict. "I care a great deal about this thing, but I need to get rid of it". Maybe he was hurt by the bad reviews.
Rick Worley is a big Lucas fan who doesn't get into the questions above, but his journalistic approach of going through piles of quotes to correct old misunderstandings and get to the truth gives one plenty of room to think about what's really happening here.

He's he hack who got lucky early (thanks to the help of more talented people and tard wranglers) and fooled his fans for decades with his totally amazing plans for 9-12 episodes that were totally real.

Re: Star Whores: Diverse Agenda
I'll never rank Lucas as one of the "GOATs", as the kids say, but he made his mark.
His first film, "THX-1138", is a pretty great, bleak dystopian piece of sci-fi that has nothing to do with the mood of "Star Wars".
The second film, "American Graffiti", is a heartfelt nostalgia piece that transports you to another time and was a pioneer of the idea of a film filled with popular songs that enhance and comment on the action, rather than a traditional music score. I love it.
Then he did "Star Wars" which is such a perfect distillation of storytelling traditions that you can hardly even talk about things like "The Hero's Journey" today without referencing it. It was also more than a hit. It was a phenomenon.
After that, things changed.
Francis Ford Coppola, who knew Lucas from way back and was a mentor to him in the early days, had a really great quote about how he thinks that "Star Wars" ruined the experimental guy that he once was.

Coppola:
“George [Lucas] is kind of a genius, but I think it’s a pity he got so [absorbed in that one franchise]. I hope George isn’t offended, but the truth of the matter is that Star Wars cost us 10 new George Lucas films that would have been wonderful.”

He also wanted Coppola to write Star Wars. George fucking hates writing and rightfully thinks he sucks at it.

On the one hand, he's not wrong. But on the other hand, George was always more passionate about experimenting with moviemaking technologies than he was in directing. The films he made were mostly a means to an end. He milked his own success for all its worth and used that money to pursue his passion. It's inspiring in its own way.Lindsay's Liver wrote: ↑Sat Mar 29, 2025 9:22 pmFrancis Ford Coppola, who knew Lucas from way back and was a mentor to him in the early days, had a really great quote about how he thinks that "Star Wars" ruined the experimental guy that he once was.
