The only way they can pull it off is to make the Confederacy a hermit kingdom like N. The show is called Confederate. I was pissed off about it, but for different reasons. The Game of Thrones guys got distracted working on this shit and that delayed the next (and final) season of Game of Thrones until 2019.
Here's an article that goes into pretty good detail about the show, the controversy, and its current status. Looks like Amazon is doing something similar, but it's SJW approved for some reason.

But North Korea has the advantage of being a small country on a peninsula. I'm not sure if you can even isolate yourself with a massive land border as the Southern States have, even if you were to build the Great Wall of Trump.Toodles wrote: ↑Tue Jan 02, 2018 9:47 pmThe only way they can pull it off is to make the Confederacy a hermit kingdom like N. Now that makes a lot more sense, which is why they might not go down that route.Guest wrote: ↑Tue Jan 02, 2018 8:57 pmBasically, slavery was phased out as technological advancements made it outdated. The modern Confederacy was more like 1950's America than the 1850's slave states. Which makes sense. The slave economy had retarded the Confederacy's industrialization, which is one of the big reasons they lost. Slavery would have to either drastically change or end altogether for a modern, industrialized nation to work.

I just remember a really awful comic called Black i heard of last year with the premise of "What if only black had superpowers" and the premise failed especially when a certain point is introduced: Superpowers appered hundreds of years ago in Africa but slaves were still sent to the US. It's never explained why blacks never stopped it from happening or why they never tried to conquer the world when they surpassed technology easily. Or and it's anti white with a subtlety that makes asledgehammer looks subtle in comparisonGuest wrote: ↑Tue Jan 02, 2018 10:50 pmThat doesn't count because the Kangz aren't poised surpass the Burgers for world supremacy.wildmage wrote: ↑Tue Jan 02, 2018 10:47 pmA story about a nation made entirely out of freed black slaves?

Why would they stop it? They started the slavery after all.

Not to mention that it'd be a lot harder to stop slaves from escaping. Before, slaves had to make it all the way to Canada to be legally free, and any abolitionists who tried to help slaves escape would be committing a crime and would be legally liable. But post-secession? The United States would have no reason to return escaped slaves to the Confederacy, an enemy country, nor to punish any abolitionists. (even if the US took the tact of not wanting to deal with escaped slaves, the significantly more likely solution than returning them would be to resettle them elsewhere, like Africa) What's the Confederacy going to do about it? Attack the US? The only reason they had any chance to win the war to begin with was that their goals were much easier to accomplish than the US (much easier to get the other guy to leave you alone than to actually have to forcefully retake territory). They had no chance of coercing the US to do anything other than leave them alone and maybe give them control of some of the western territories.VoiceOfReasonPast wrote: ↑Tue Jan 02, 2018 8:39 pmSo is this alternate history supposed to be set in Current Year? But forget how increasingly impractical slavery itself would have been. The rest of the world was taking an increasingly negative view of slavery. Dislike of slavery was actually a big reason that England and France stayed out of the war rather than providing support to the Confederacy, and after the war those would have been key trading partners for the Confederacy. There definitely would've been strong pressure from them and other countries to end the practice, so the Confederacy would have had to eventually end it in order to have good trading partners.
There's a lot you can do with the premise "what if the South won the Civil War?" and I did mostly like Harry Turtledove's Southern Victory series that had that premise, but having the Confederacy win and retain slavery until the modern day is implausible. You'll notice that Harry Turtledove's series actually had what I mentioned: Several decades after the Civil War, the Confederacy officially ends slavery in large part due to pressure from England and France, which the South had strong reason to remains allies with (in a second war between the North and South, England and France provide military support to the Confederacy which allows them to wallop the United States).
