Re: Brad Jones, The Cinema Snob
In the middle of the production of Ghosts of Mars he realized he had lost his passion for directing. I think old age and decades of getting shit on wore him down. Halloween, The Fog, Escape from New York, Christine, Prince of Darkness and They Live were his only commercially successful films and Halloween, Escape from New York and Starman were his only critically successful films. Most of his films bombed at the box office and or were eviscerated by critics.

I'm sure the royalties he gets from Halloween plus the amount of times his films have been remade means he ain't struggling for money. Every modern horror film director is inspired by him so his legacy is set in stone.

I hope he gets his royalties too, but who knows. Hollywood likes to dick everyone over as much as possible.TheManWithNoPlan wrote: ↑Sat Jul 29, 2017 11:37 pmI'm sure the royalties he gets from Halloween plus the amount of times his films have been remade means he ain't struggling for money. Carpenter is notorious in hollywood for getting his money. Hell he's one of the few filmmakers to win a plagiarism lawsuit against another filmmaker and actually collect the money. So he's made bank.

Glad to hear that. The general rule is always ask for a cut of the gross profits, because if you get a net deal, the accountants will come up with all sorts of ways to get out of paying you. Even the bigger successes have technically never made a profit.

Re: Brad Jones, The Cinema Snob
Carpenter was smart enough to hang on to a piece of the movie rights for most of his films. So when they remade The Fog he got a sizable check. When they made The Thing in 2011 he got a check. And so on. And those checks aren't dependent on the profits. They have to pay him up front before they're able to do anything else.

Does anyone who isn't a woman actually think he's a good actor? The only reason he's been around so long is because Titanic got the panties wet.JohnnyCocksville wrote: ↑Fri Jul 28, 2017 12:48 amPeople bitched for years about Leonardo Dicaprio not winning an Oscar,
