I don't disagree with you here, just with the principle that Twin Peaks needs Lynch to exist. He was one of two co-creators, both of whom were absent at different times.Kugelfisch wrote: ↑Sat Jan 18, 2025 10:47 amIt's a finished story and I find it difficult to believe there's anyone left that can pick it up and do something meaningful with it.Rushy wrote: ↑Fri Jan 17, 2025 12:24 amWhy? Not trying to denigrate Lynch or anything, I love his work, but Twin Peaks can and has functioned perfectly fine without him. He was only truly prevalent in the pilot, the movie and season 3.
Not everything needs to get remade and added onto just because somebody holds the IP rights, eventually running it into the ground. No good story goes on in perpetuity.

This is a good time to remember when Donald Trump mentioned David Lynch in a speech about six, seven years ago. No one talks about this anymore, but Lynch once dared to be optimistic about Trump's presidency and then later walked it back, which was disappointing.

In the industry post Trump you have three option. Shit on Trump endlessly, keep your opinions to yourself or rebrand as an annoying Maga celebrity.

Re: Dead Celebrities aren't much fun
David Lynch never got super-political, but somehow it was known in the 80s that he voted for Ronald Reagan. I have a book of long-form interviews with a small group of revered filmmakers circa 1990-91 conducted by Rolling Stone writer David Breskin. Each interview is about 30-40 pages long. Its subjects are Francis Coppola, Spike Lee, David Cronenberg, Robert Altman, Tim Burton, and David Lynch.
It's a great book and one memorable part is when the clearly liberal Breskin grills Lynch on why he voted for Reagan. Lynch REALLY doesn't want to talk about it and says so, but Breskin keeps pressing and the deepest that Lynch gets into it is that Reagan made him feel good about the country.

Lynch was an oddball guy. Calling him a Hollywood guy is both accurate and wrong at the same time. He loved the Hollywood dream but wasn't what I would mean if I called someone a Hollywood guy.
Sounds like he just voted whoever he thought was the best candidate. In the case of Bernie I think it's likely a matter of the lesser evil. Lynch naturally wouldn't love the brash Trump or the contemptible Hilldawg.

To be fair, Trump's presidency was disappointing - giving him the benefit of the doubt and them being disappointed is fine.Lindsay's Liver wrote: ↑Sat Jan 18, 2025 7:48 pmThis is a good time to remember when Donald Trump mentioned David Lynch in a speech about six, seven years ago. Don't worry. We will no doubt get a prequel where it turns out that black people were responsible for all the good shit, while all the evil shit is White Man's fault.
