Sounds like a plausible theory actually. They've been trying to make a Roger Rabbit sequel for ages, but couldn't get it done because Disney doesn't fully own the character. Guess a cameo was all they could get so they just used the plot for another dead IP at random.

Either that, or they honestly thought the premise is universal enough that they could've slotted in any old cartoon IP.

Honestly bonkers would have been more fitting for this films premise rather then rescue rangers considering he was basically bubsy in a roger rabbit setting. And it could have had a funny scene with him and roger considering the show was originally meant to be a roger rabbit toon but got replaced with original characters because of rights ownership of roger rabbit.

Also almost no one even remember Bonkers - while Chip and Dale are Disney oldfags dating from the old Donald cartoons. They will bring, the Jews hope, those rememberry shekels. Bonkers most certainly wouldnt.

Wouldn't be surprised if Bonkers gets a cameo. They have that cartoon cat from an old Paula Abdul music video, so obscurity is no problem there.

Who is even the villain in this movie? I didn't see Fat Cat or that mad scientist anywhere. This shit trailer can't even establish properly what antagonist they are up against.

How would the old villains even work if they were just actors in a series? I assume they will either not appear at all, just get a cameo, or they rip off Return to the Batcave and have one of them be a villain for real because he's jealous of the main actor's success or something.

Probably some Judge Doom ripoff.
