Take the nursing home resident. Not all of them do it. It's the ones whose body is very frail but their minds are still fully functional. Such a person has lived for over half a century as a completely 100% independent human being. Now they are bed ridden and forced into a very regimented existence they have no say in. They get up every morning at the exact same time, they bath at the exact same time, they eat their meals at the exact same time, and they are put to bed at the exact same time. All under someone else's direction. They have no say in it. To us eating our own shit disgusting. To them it's an act that at least gives them a very small amount of agency in their lives, even if it is counter-productive.

Now look at Tatted McLardTits. What agency does she have in life? What does she really control? Oh, she can choose when to get up in the morning or when to eat. What can she really do? Travel? Learn a new skill or hobby? Do anything of meaning. Nope. She doesn't have the money or support structure for that. Her choices are a follows:

1. Binge eat for a dopamine rush
2. Post on social media for a dopamine rush
3. Coddle parrot to fill the gaping hole where her maternal instinct is
4. Get new tattoos.

She feels "empowered" by getting tattoos because it's all she CAN do.

(Or I'm completely wrong and shes getting all the tattoos as a preemptive "Fuck you!" to the family so as to cushion the blow to her ego when she inevitably runs out of Beta Bux and has to go crawling back to her family for support.)
