It's basically just a lightsaber, except it can shoot a blaster shot at a 90° angle from the sword.

(The one in Rebel only shoots stun bolts, but that's just because Disney won't let the underage MC straight-up murder a guy, but just think of the possibilities.)

Dammit I think the thing can't actually slice and shoot at the same time. Oh well, it's just a prototype.

Dat spinny Maulsaber. Every single evil guy in Rebels who uses that ends up getting fucked because they might look scary, but are ludicrously easy to get chopped up because there's this giant-ass weakpoint where your hands are.

I'm okay with the darksaber since it's just edgier instead of dumber, and the rifle is at least someone realizing that saber beams would make for good anti-lightsaber shots.
