I had to put broccoli up to $4.99/each and I'm only making a measly 20% margin. A case of twenty-four count head lettuce is up to $90-100. All our produce is from the 'States and the U.S. historically gouges us before their thanksgiving but the USD skyrocketed once Trump won.

It's a value added tax. It's added after everything else. So in case of our Mehrwertsteuer, which is 7% on food, the price on the shelf is 107%, not 100%. Meaning that to have more profit, you'd actually have to raise your prices.

I guess you could do that. But instead of selling more at the usual profit margin because everyone's buying power is increased in the highest turnover time of the year, you'd not only sell less, you'd sell significantly less.
