Rewatched The Emperor and the Assassin. It's a great historical drama taking place during the warlords period of China. I was impressed in particular this time with the sets and costuming. The film doesn't look a bit dated. The use of real extras and practical effects means, as a film, it surpasses the visuals of most modern-day chinese action films. In particular, this is a historical drama with no wuxia bullshit. I enjoy wuxia bullshit sometimes, but this is a story you can take a little more seriously. Nobody flies around and the action is grounded in reality. The cast is phenomenal. They're at that scorcese/godfather level where information is conveyed nonverbally to the audience solely thanks to the expressions of the actors and actresses. Many of the most powerful moments have no dialogue or almost no dialogue.

Saw Death Wish. I see why libbies hate it so much. The message is basically "cops will never help, rely on your fists guns. The daughter is effing hot, so is Bethany the gun shop girl. No titties dough.
