Re: Movie Thread
Bill is more of an obstacle than a villain anyway. Tom Noonan as Francis Dollarhyde in Manhunter is more of a focus in his movie. Silence, to me, is Hannibal's movie. They talk about him at the start and he casts a shadow over the rest of the movie.

Apparently Ingmar Bergman was secretly Kugelfisch.

RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK (1981)
The Indiana Jones movies are straight-up, no apologies my favorite movie trilogy (the last two don't count). I think about a lot of things when I rewatch them, as I do every summer. I think about being a kid seeing all of these movies in theaters when they came out. I think about reading the Marvel Comics adaptations back then when things like that existed. I think about watching them a million times on VHS (I now have the 4K set). I think about how perfectly made they are.
I also think about how the first movie would probably be trashed today by the anti-woke Youtubers. They have no eye for nuance so Marion's assertiveness would be something that they would complain about. She drinks big guys under the table when we first meet her and is a bitch to Indiana Jones, who apparently had sex with her when she was a teenager (Marion: "I was a child! I was in love! It was wrong and you knew it!"). There would be two-hour-long videos made about how wrong this movie is.
But I love it.
I replaced the TV in my den with an Epson projector last weekend and this is the first movie I played on it. It was so great.

Re: Movie Thread
My favorite trilogy is probably either the ‘Dead’ trilogy or maybe LotR (even if Two Towers buckles a bit) but Raiders is so fucking perfect, despite its imperfections; every beat seamlessly moves into the next - the movie flies by but not in a way where it feels overcrowded.

It's the type of wild goose chase that Jar-Jar Abrams keeps fucking up like it's not even funny.

Re: Movie Thread
The original Indiana Jones movies are all the same movie with the same structure. That's what's so satisfying about them.
The later movies make the mistake of thinking that we want to see Indy get old and sad. Which we don't. Indiana Jones is a fantasy character in a series of unrealistic movies where the bad guys always have horrible aim and our hero survives by a lot of lucky breaks.
