Why play Dune and not Dune 2? The latter is a legend and the much better game.

I have to disagree.
Dune has much more to do: finding and recruiting Fremen troops, finding the correct equipment, balancing the spice mining and military training, finding and assessing and exterminating the Harkonnen bases (while they try to do the same to you), playing through an actual storyline, possibly also doing the ecology route.
Dune II has more kinetic gameplay, but it's also less interesting to talk about. There's practically no variation in level design or goals. Plus, you can very easily just win by doing the same thing over and over. Build up a strong base, and then overwhelm the enemy. It's a little more complicated than that, but not by much.

Naturally, as the resident contrarian you must feel compelled to.

I have to disagree with that label too.Kugelfisch wrote: ↑Wed Sep 13, 2023 8:28 pmNaturally, as the resident contrarian you must feel compelled to.

But in all seriousness though, I always found the first game more engaging. I liked how it tied into the book, but also made interesting changes to benefit the gameplay (such as not having House Atreides ruined). And while I wish the game had an action aspect to it, being able to micromanage the entire war effort was preferable to only fighting in self-contained levels that all look and feel the same.

That's perhaps interesting to you or me because we know Dune. Most people don't and these two faggots doubly don't.
Dune 2 arguably invented the entire RTS genre, something which would be more interesting to a vidya-based channel.
If they weren't both dumb losers too gay and boring for the Internet, they would've figured out a way to play together.

Re: Spoony the Pussy One: Life is in the Render Queue
Spoony does, though. At least to the extent of being a fan of the 1984 film. That alone should make the original game more interesting, because there's direct references (weirding modules, Kyle MacLachlan etc) and a storyline to riff on. Not to mention that the decisionmaking is so diverse that they can have discussions about that. Do we need more military or spice troops? Should we go seek out more equipment or spend spice on buying it? Do we handle the illness crisis first or attack a Harkonnen base? Do we want to do ecology at all?
Dune II only has the historical value going for it. The gameplay is little more than a fun time-waster nowadays. It's just wearing the franchise's skin.

Noah admits he gave up reading the first book because he didn't like it. "It wasn't at all like the film. There was more to it and it moved a lot slower."

Arguably worse than never having heard about Dune in the first place.
Yeah yeah, interesting people may have something interesting to discuss. These twats aren't that. Dune 2 is still the much more relevant game.

Wish I still owned a PC, I'd quite like to give Dune: Spice Wars a chance. Sounds like an interesting spiritual successor to Dune II
