I never read any of them, the only lore I ever known was from the cards themselves.

The return of the goddamn Lovecraftian monsters as a blatant way for them to kill the entire cast of main characters was one of the final straws that made me quit Magic Arena for good. Fuck that annoying crap, it's the THIRD TIME the Phyrexians invade and destroy everything (fourth time if you count the original invasion of the Thran empire). At some point you need to find another antagonist.

At least Phyrexia used to bring cool cards and flavour. Thran is just bullshit artifacts, as if Legacy amd Vintage weren't already fucked to shit enough.

Funny you say that, because the only recent card that started doing rounds on Vintage and Legacy was Atraxa, a 7 mana creature card representing one of the Phyrexian praetors or something.

Isn't it funny that Phyrexian mana was seen as ultimate cancer but the artifacts keep getting synergy so strong that it makes that mechanic look weak and gay?

Besides Spellskite, obviously.

The only two Phyrexian mana cards that were (and still would be) a problem were Gitaxian Probe and Mental Misstep, and both only because that means they can basically be played for free since they cost 1 mana. The mechanic itself wasn't even a fraction of the cancer that were the real all-time bangers from WotC: storm, dredge, affinity for artifacts, and whatever was the design philosophy behind Throne of Eldraine.

Shit cards were the least problem of Magic. It was fun trying to make really dumb gimmick cards to work. Like Brain in a Jar and such.
Netdecking, cancerous meta and tourneyfaggotry are what killed Magic for me.
