The one thing that even comes close to making me suspect it was not staged was that he slapped Chris instead of some white actor who could've then fell to his knees and beg for forgiveness for the crimes committed by his race (followed by everyone clapping).

Simple fact here is, ABC/Disney pay the Academy $100 million a year to licence the Oscars ceremony for broadcast and only slightly more people actually watch them than still watch The Simpsons on a good day. Before the slap, this year's Oscars were heading for their lowest ratings ever. Now thanks to it, it's merely the second lowest rated Oscars ever. But everybody's talking about them, and I guarantee you some gullible people will tune in next year to see if there's more drama
