At least you (potentially) get the chick in the end.

I assume any hypothetical Fallout 6 would only have a troon to fuck, and """she""" would never shut up about how the patriarchy caused the apocalypse.

Re: What are you playing?
No it isn't.
Heretic is just Doom with an inventory and lamer weapons, monsters, setting and protagonist.
Hexen instead is one of the first (((immersive sims))), with great graphics, atmosphere and sound design.
In Doom & clones you have linear levels with optional secrets, in Hexen finding secrets is how you progress.
Instead of reaching the end of the stage, you have hubs of interconnected stages, and doing something in one of them opens something in another.
I would rank them in this order:
Hexen>Heretic>Hexen 2 (the quake engine didn't work for that one).
And fuck that clown "Civve11" or whatever his name was for saying otherwise, fat and ugly fuck with TDS who can't make a video without whining about muh Gaymurgate and muh feminist issues.
And Rise of the Triad doesn't have "character", PedoEra bitch, it's just a pile of shit.
I'm pretty sure that the first level isn't part of a hub, and that those start after it.rabidtictac wrote: ↑Fri Mar 04, 2022 4:41 amI thought it was cool for about five minutes ,until getting lost.![]()
Do you know that there is a map, and that you could smash those stained glass panels in that church at the beginning to reveal hidden passages, right?
Strife is a cheesy, simpler Deus EX.rabidtictac wrote: ↑Fri Mar 04, 2022 4:41 amIf you're saying Strife is playable, despite looking to me like more Hexen hellmazery, then maybe I'll give that a shot whenever I finish what I'm doing now.
You just talk to the npcs and they tell you where to go and what to do.

Re: What are you playing?
In other news i uninstalled Elden Reddit before finishing the download so i could witness THIS:
Something tells me that hiring him and Jonathan Davis (who i bet is going to show up in the game later) is where most of all the budget went.
The graphics are indeed a downgrade compared to the first one's; not only both the male and female models are much uglier, but the stark visual contrast between the factions, their armors/weapons and their zones which was interesting in the first game no longer is here, now everything tends to blend together.
The first game also had a cool day and night cycle during which you had to use light sources or camp during the night in order to see what was in front of you, now instead you can see everything at night like in every other open world gayme.
The Eng dub is so bad that i switched to German, even though i barely know 2-3 words of it.
The combat is probably the easiest i've ever seen in a Gothic; the enemies are way less aggressive and fast than in any previous game in the series (it really is a single series), and they always focus on your companion.
Even playing at Ultra difficulty i haven't died once.
Now the protag has an annoying, dumb son who looks like a brown Gollum and follows him around during some quests asking dumb questions; thankfully i could dump him in the Skyrim people's fortress and go fight shit like Gokeu would.
Hopefully he will die/turn into a mutant later.
And the camera is a stuck over the shoulders-kind of deal.
You know, because another gayme came out in which the protagonist all of a sudden had a dumb, annoying son and a camera stuck over his shoulders.
The game is still a Gothic at its core though, so i will beat it because i'm that kind of faggot.

An annoying son? Did they rip off Dad of Walking?
And man, I feel these band cameos used to be more thematically appropriate.

Re: What are you playing?
I agree with Complicity on Heretic. It especially doesn't deserve more credit as it's already praised a whole lot, despite just being a full on Doom clone.

That's why it's praised. It's just Doom.

Re: What are you playing?
I guess there's two different ways to look at it. In terms of influence and legacy, I'd agree Hexen is more impressive. Because it made those first initial moves towards nonlinearity, puzzles, exploration, character building, melee combat etc all in first person. So if you want to call it an immersive sim, I guess that's fine. I still think System Shock 1 did a lot more for immersive sims, basically laying down the ground rules that all subsequent games would follow. Shame it plays like shit now.
And that's where I'm going with Hexen. "You need to get secrets in order to progress" is kind of shit game design. So is the extreme degree of obscure bullshit in the level design. I know I said it filtered me after five minutes, but I was slightly exaggerating. I think I made it to the first nonlinear parts of the game, in some giant-ass hub, before giving up. Heretic might be only a DOOM clone, but it's approachable and still fun today. It's not as good as DOOM, DOOM II or DOOM 64, but you can load it up, play some levels and have a good time. Maybe I'll feel differently after I play Amid Evil.
Every game runs into this whenever people talk about what game is the best. If you ask what shmup is the best, some faggot will respond "Gradius," "R-Type" or even "Space Invaders." Space Invaders plays like shit today however, with slow-ass, limited movement and pitifully weak shots. R-Type and Gradius play well but have been well surpassed, even within their own franchises, by subsequent titles. So, speaking purely in terms of gameplay, they *can't* be "the best." But you could maybe argue more successfully they are some of the best for their legacy. I have respect for what Hexen tried to do but I have no interest in playing it because it seems extremely obnoxious. If I want to play an immersive sim, System Shock 2 is right there.

Re: What are you playing?
I could respond to many bit of your post individually. But it's all very can't in the light that you'd even use the term "immersive sim"
