The animated one is better. Even when I saw the live action one as a kid I didn't think much of it because it had no hadokens or sonic booms, something the Mortal Kombat movie did right. The animated Street Fighter movie gave you everything you want, constant, nonstop fight scenes out the ass at the expense of the plot (but who cares, it's fucking street fighter) that are extremely well made and animated.Charlar wrote: ↑Thu Sep 21, 2017 12:42 amThe only video game movie i'll defend is the 90's live action Street Fighter for one reason Raul Julia as M. Yeah, looks fucking shit. That jump from the ship was when I tapped out. It's a video game movie so it's bound to be terrible anyway.

18% on RT. I asked Brad Jones to do a Midnight Screening of it when it came out, but he'd rather review "no shit it's bad" Jesus movies.

Or old porn spoofs. Because everyone expected those to be more than a curiosity.

For shame... SF is a modern comedy classic!Kugelfisch wrote: ↑Thu Sep 21, 2017 12:44 amToo bad everything else was terrible. Not even in the so bad it's good kinda way. It's got that embarrassing "direct to video Mortal Kombat sequel" vibe.

Re: Movie Thread
I saw Street Fighter in the theater opening night at full price. I wasn't expecting a masterpiece, but I thought we'd at least get some good martial arts fight scenes out of it. Nope. It was completely worthless on every level.
I saw Mortal Kombat later at a discount $1 theater. THAT was the kind of fun chop-sockey schlock I was expecting from Street Fighter. And then Mortal Kombat made that garbage sequel, which I also stupidly went to see. It was a time before Rotten Tomatoes, when people were more easily suckered.

Re: Movie Thread
Due to the easy availability of online movie reviews (including Rotten Tomatoes), I've been able to avoid the big Hollywood stinkers.
Back in the day you only had Siskel and Ebert, and some film snob wannabe in your local newspaper. Sometimes they were correct, but other times they trashed movies that actually turned out to be good when I'd rent them on VHS.
We basically judged by the trailer and any word of mouth we'd hear. I still ended up seeing so much bullshit when we were teens in the '90s. I remember my friends and I going to see absolute crap like Johnny Mnemonic, Tank Girl, Cool World, Sliver, the Schumaker Batman films, Judge Dredd, etc. Doge is right about that era being shit for film. He is wrong about it being better today though.

Ah, the 90s. I also went to cinema to watch Street Fighter, Mask, Super Mario Bros, Batman Forever, Batman & Robin, to name a few. What a glorious decade of Hollywood.
