That was Dungeonland, for parties of levels 9-12 (at least if you go by the book) and for AD&D... 1st edition.

Unless the GM just ran it with 2nd edition, his tale gets even more holes. Bards weren't a core class in AD&D. You had to have rolled the right stats, and then you have to jump to some bullshit hoops, spending your first couple levels as a Fighter, then the next couple as a Thief, then you switch over a Druid except you're now actually a Bard. It's a more retarded version of the already retarded Dual-Class rules for AD&D humans.
You'd think he would've brought this up, but I don't recall a single instance of this.
