I think the 90s was when the studios really started to fuck with him on the creative end of things. He couldn't do things without studio money anymore and therefore he was kind of forced to swallow their shit. He seemed to try to make it work a while but eventually he tapped out and just said "I'm not going to do this shit anymore. " I respect the shit out of him for that.

actually...i have a good josh analogy-peter bogdanovich & paul schrader

they both just ASSUMED they were geniuses, did work that made others say they were...n never EVER came close to original promise after their initial efforts

josh COULD have been big on blip/YT if he knew how to play the game...but keep in mind one of josh's role models is 'uncle' bob martin from FANGORIA...who i'm sad to say i threw a few bucks at when he had medical issues til i noticed he wuz

a) resting on decades-old laurels and
b) kinda taking advantage of his fanbase

i luv me sum CITIZEN KANE but welles eventually admitted being surrounded by sycophants who indulged his bad behavior eventually destroyed him

kinda like a social media hugbox

His last movie The Ward was garbage. Boring jumpscare cliche bland horror movie. Hard to believe this is the same guy that made The Thing, Escape From New York and Big Trouble in Little China. Even Kurt Russell wouldn't have been able to save piles of garbage like The Ward and Ghosts of Mars.

The Ward was blah but I didn't hate it. One of his episodes of that awful Masters Of Horror series, Cigarette Burns, was surprisingly good.

The Ward is cliche and forgettable but there are countless horror films that are far worse.

Well here's the thing with Hadley, and SO many content creators in general.

Find a movie everyone loves or everyone hates. Regurgitate the same theories and ideas about those movies that everyone else already has. That is both Hadley and CA... just repeating things over and over that many other critics have said. The only difference is the personality and pageantry surrounding the "review." The reason CA crumbles, why Doge lost relevance, had little to do with financial shenanigans and internet drama, it was all stagnation. The same thing, over and over again. Not discussion about movies, or honest opinions, just sketches and repeated rhetoric for fans. It gets tiresome. If you notice, the CA fanbase has always stayed at the same age for several years. The fans CA has now are the ones for whom it is still new. They, like all of us already did, will tire and grow out of it.

Which gives me an idea about theories of kahntent kreation. New things to try. I might want to try making a new site again. Experimenting. I don't know. Thinking aloud.

Ultimately the goal is to always be doing something new. Not bandwagoning with the popular opinion about any media (or the way it's presented), and not just being stagnant with the same thing.

The Ward is hardly even recognizable as a Carpenter film. It is exactly like so many DTV horror movies, not at all the work of a seasoned genre director.
