I've learned to respect the old cars. I was out with my dad last week in his 1974 Ford and we got rear-ended when he had to brake for a jaywalker. The bitch must have been texting or something because there was plenty of time to stop. Anyways, it was a rather hard impact, but there wasn't a scratch on his car. That's because the newer cars tend to be designed in a way that the surrounding parts absorb most (or as much as possible) of the force of the crash, so the squishy parts inside (that's you) have better chance at surviving. At least that's the idea when something a bit more serious than a crack on a bumper happens.

I had a minor fender bender on an old 2000 car and the insurance sent me a letter 3 days after saying they were totaling it. Check's in the mail, get a new car.
