Yes, if you search "media literacy" on social media (in order to see how it's used) there is a connection between "correct" interpretations of pop culture media and "correct" interpretations of the news. They go hand in hand.

I made it about six minutes into that video. All I got was that it's an analysis of where Channel Awesome stands today now that the "angry reviewer" style is considered passe (something that I'm not sure that I agree with), but first the dude is gonna tell you the whole history of the channel and I can't stay awake for that.

The effect that a generation of popular critics has on media discourse is an interesting topic, but I didn't get the sense that the maker of this video has any "big picture" view on the topic.
