It gets that cold in Brazil?

These days it's rare due to the changing climate, but sometimes it does in the South. Some cities up the sierra may even get a very thin coat of snow, like Gramado - there's an entire tourist trap industry based on "it's just an European winter!" whenever it snows in that region. This autumn and winter have been very weird, climate-wise.

It is. I live down the southern tropical line, so it used to have very distinct four seasons while the rest of the country has "dry summer" and "wet summer". But in the last few years, the winters had been all very hot - average temperatures going above 20C. But this time the polar winds managed to advance over the hot air and dropped temperatures to a nice low. Plus it's sunny and dry, which is a welcome improvement after two entire months of almost non-stop rains.

That was my January and February. Air conditioning made my power bill almost triple from the lowest point. The air outside felt like it would burn the skin even out of the sun. Too much heat is no conductor for civilization, that's for sure.
