It costs more money to build something like that than to not build it. So you gotta ask, not what is wrong with you specifically, but what is wrong with the area where you are living? What is wrong with the people around you? What is causing this business to spend that extra money to wall off their customers like this?

Businesses don't do shit unless they are forced to. It's the same reason laissez-faire capitalism doesn't work. But by that same logic, if a business does do something? Probably were forced to do it.

Everything was a destroyed husk, insane looking people shuffled or darted along the landscape depending on whatever drugs they took last and the parts store had a full brick wall around it topped with razor wire with a mechanized gate being the only way in. Every company is. But hey, guess what? In the last five years, shoplifting in my area has gotten so bad that all the stores now pay for full-time private security, plus patrols, plus extra barricades inside and outside stores with barcode scanners.

It's like walking into a fucking prison. The managers are also always standing out in the front and watching everyone.

Makes you wonder just how much they're losing to shoplifting that they felt it necessary to pay for all that.

Loads. Theft runs up the billth extremely quick and any given location isn't super profitable to begin with.

Assuming just because a few corpo fat cats make an obscene amount of money that a single store is a money machine is like thinking you'll get rich working for a MLM pyramid scheme because the top dozen people got rich.
