No, he added $400. The $600 unemployment bonus expired July 31. The people who received it were hung out to dry for a week and going to have to rely on their state's conventional benefits, unsure if Congress would ever get it together, stop arguing about ID requirements for voters or some shit like that, and pass a stimulus bill. The Democrats wanted to keep the $600, a few Republicans I heard wanted to knock it down to $200 because of (valid) concerns that unemployment paid more money than a lot of people were making at their jobs, and thus discouraging them from going back. Trump's $400 is a nice compromise. In the end, you'd have to be a real asshole to scoff at $400 in free money every week.
