That massive spike at the end when you click "All" at the bottom? That's why the stock market recovered by the end of fucking April and why Elon Musk is now the richest man alive. The billionaires made bank during the crisis since the Fed bailed there asses out without them needing to sell anything why real businesses die. The left acting like The Fed is some great regulator and not one of the main causes of the rich getting richer over the past 40 years is why nothing will change.

Money is mostly created digitally by banks, and at least in the UK (and probably most western nations) 40% is created for home loans and 40% is for loans to put money in the stock market. In other words, they legally counterfeit money to loan at interest that mainly enriches themselves (home loans) and the elites (companies on the stock market), and with interest rates so low it is worth the money to get a loan to buy shares since the yearly return will be way higher than the interest you paid. And after you pay it off it's free money, rather than putting it slowly into a fund that grows over time like it's supposed to work. This is putting artificial money into the stock market to artificially increase the value of shares, and with fractional reserve limits decreasing in the 80s and not even being enforced in 2008 it is a major factor for the increase in income inequality. Once you are on the stock exchange you have an unfair advantage over your competitors since the banks are literally giving you extra money.

The problem here is it's a catch-22. The underlying issue is corporations have too much power and the politicians are bought and paid for, with no interest in reducing income inequality like Poonoo said.

So the result is a series of if->then equations, all of which are unfavorable.

IF we raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour or some number like that which can provide a living wage, THEN we will see absolutely insane levels of outsourcing and automation. Most industries will go automated and overseas almost overnight. Not because megacorps NEED to go overseas to stay in business. But because they can. They have no reason to pay those higher prices for employees and they've no intention to. The only industries that will benefit from raising the minimum wage are industries that cannot be replaced by machines or Indian call centers. So nursing, trades, etc.

IF we don't raise the minimum wage at all, THEN corporations will continue to automate and outsource, just more slowly. Incomes will remain low and our country will gradually become a third-world shithole just like China or the middle east. The ultra-rich will hoard everything and the rest of us will form the slave underclass. You might argue we're already there, but things can get much worse. Corporations will retain more human employees, but they'll be paid far below a living wage, as many are now.

So there isn't a single solution I can see working to fix this, except to start busting the megacorps. Which nobody wants to do. Corporations are the true rulers of our planet, not governments. Especially now that we've entered an age of nuclear deterrence, where the major nuclear powers dare not make war on each other because of MAD obliterating the entire planet. Corporations ultimately drive governmental policy anyway, so it's not like government and megacorporations are two separate entities in any case.

Make no mistake, we are living in a new feudal age. The average citizen owns nothing. Everything you claim to own is merely given to you in usury. Citizens cannot own land or personal property. Megacorporations and the uber-rich, however, can.

well, the argument can definitely be made we're already there - when you describe us becoming a third-world shithole, you are describing the service industry *now* - especially with COVID. People just straight up don't tip because they're not expected to and there's no direct way to call them a fucking dick if they stiff or undertip - it turns into like finger wagging which is not as effective as paying these people more than 2 dollars an hour. The service industry is where the people who don't go to college wind up, it is what the packing houses were 70 years ago.

Corporations rule the world instead of governments, until they don't. Just look at what happened to Ali Baba in China. The CCP just gave the owner their version of a helicopter ride and gobbled up the company, and no one batted an eye. Sure in "western democracies" the oligarchs have many protections against that happening to them, but only until they don't have it anymore. The State still has the so-called "monopoly of violence" and WILL employ it against corporations if the occasion arises.

(Which is why it's so difficult to get rid of Communism once it establish itself, because any form of Socialism is chiefly concerned about getting a hold of both the economic power AND the monopoly of violence - so there's no way to keep the nomenklatura in check).

We need another Teddy Rosevelt to break up their trusts and cartels, because that's what causing most of the current economic unbalance and the political power mechanics. Bill Gates and Jeff Bezos come to mind, but there are many others.

My issue with communism is that you can rightly criticize any other form of government except communism - because they want you to sweep that shit under the rug or face the wall.

Part of the problem is political polarization - someone like Teddy Roosevelt (really either of the Roosevelts) or Eisenhower could get a big coalition behind them without compromising too much - but mass media has gotten people overinformed - and they're either on one team or the other. The last real coalition builder was probably Saint Ronnie - and although he was Mr Union Buster Reaganomics, he was very efficient, I suppose is the word.
