Why should he? He just won the presidency thanks to them. He owes them a raise, if anything.

It may look like that ex post facto, but you underestimate how really close to having his brains splattered all over that podium Trump was. I was watching some commentary on the assassination attempt and one of the hosts made a good point: it was a good shot, specially for a 20 years old with little experience. He only missed because Trump was ridiculously lucky, more lucky than the photographer who actually managed to snap a picture where one of the projectiles shows up (and that I though it had to be false, until it was confirmed real).

There are multiple videos of the shooting though and I like this one because it puts you in the crowd. You can feel their confusion. They might have just seen Trump get murdered. They don't know. Everything happened so fast

When Trump gets up, raising a fist in the air is the only thing he can do to tell the crowd that he's okay. He can't go back to the microphone. That's too dangerous. His response is completely natural.
